The purpose of this practicum is to train participants to apply principles and practices of Rational Emotive and Cognitive Behavior Therapy with children, adolescents, and parents. This in-depth training will consist of 12 hours of seminars and 12 hours of group supervision where participants learn how to apply concepts therapeutically. Topics addressed in seminars include the following:

• An overview of the principles and practices of the theory, which is an excellent review for those who have taken the primary certificate in REBT.

• Specific applications of the model with young clients, including developmental considerations and creative age-appropriate techniques which will be illustrated through a video with a young adolescent.

• Working with parents through consultation, with emphasis on helping parents identify and dispute irrational beliefs that interfere with effective parenting and learn about parenting styles that result in more effective parenting practices. Concepts will be illustrated through a video demonstration.

• Creative developmentally-appropriate interventions for a variety of internalizing and externalizing disorders, modeled and demonstrated through participant involvement.

Group supervision is perhaps the most valuable aspect of this training because participants have an opportunity to practice the theoretical model for an in-depth understanding of how it works, engaging in role plays to facilitate skill development. Through peer supervision and specific, detailed feedback from the supervisors, participants will develop expertise in REBT.

Who will be benefited

Psychologists, psychiatrists, school counsellors, emotional educators, teachers, special educators, medical doctors especially Pediatricians and all professionals who deal with children and adolescents.
